What This Notice Covers

This notice covers personal information collected through bigtroublelabs.com. It does not cover information you give us in the course of an engagement, which is governed by the contract and confidentiality terms agreed with your organisation, nor information held by other organisations whose sites we may link to.

What We Collect

Only two things.

We do not use analytics, advertising trackers, embedded video, social media widgets or any other third-party script on this site.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies and uses no similar storage technology. There is nothing to consent to and no banner to dismiss, because there is nothing tracking you.

Why We Use It, And Our Lawful Basis

We use what you send through the form to read your enquiry, reply to it, and have whatever conversation follows. That is the only purpose.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests. Our interest is in being able to respond to people who contact us about our services, which is also the reason you filled the form in. We have considered whether this is fair to you and concluded that it is, because you initiated the contact, the information is what you chose to give, we use it only to reply, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Server logs are also handled under legitimate interests, specifically keeping the site available and secure.

We do not send marketing. Contacting us does not add you to a mailing list. We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for their own purposes, and we make no automated decisions about you.

Who Else Is Involved

We use a small number of service providers to run the website and our email. They process information on our instructions and for no other purpose.

ProviderWhat they do
FasthostsHosts the website and generates the server logs described above
ResendDelivers the enquiry form message to us as an email
MicrosoftProvides our email system, where your enquiry arrives and is stored

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to obtain professional advice, but this is rare and we would not do it lightly.

Where Your Information Is Held

Your enquiry is stored in our Microsoft 365 mailbox. Microsoft holds our mail in the United Kingdom.

The website is hosted by Fasthosts, in United Kingdom data centres.

The one exception is delivery. The message you type into the form is passed to us by Resend, our email delivery provider, which is based in the United States, so that step involves a transfer outside the UK. It is covered by the safeguards data protection law requires for international transfers, such as approved contractual terms. Once delivered, your message sits in our United Kingdom mailbox and stays there.

How Long We Keep It

We keep enquiries for 180 days from the date you send them, and then delete them. If your enquiry becomes an engagement, the information moves into our client records and is kept under the terms agreed with your organisation instead.

Server logs are kept for the period our hosting provider retains them as part of ordinary site operation.

Your Rights

Under UK data protection law you have the following rights over information we hold about you. They are free to exercise and we will respond within one month.

To use any of these, email hello@bigtroublelabs.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not disclose your information to somebody else.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. Complaining to us first does not affect that right.

Changes To This Notice

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
